Frequently Asked Questions

At Sand & Stone Creations, I believe jewelry can be more than an accessory. It can hold a memory, celebrate your family, or become a little reminder of the moments that mean the most. Below you'll find answers to common questions about my handmade jewelry, custom orders, keepsakes, and jewelry care.

If you have a question that isn't answered here, please reach out. I'm always happy to help!

Keepsake Jewelry

What is keepsake jewelry?

Keepsake jewelry is a meaningful way to preserve special memories in a wearable piece. Depending on the design, I can incorporate breastmilk, dried flowers, fabric, ashes, and other meaningful inclusions to create something uniquely yours.

What materials can you use in my keepsake jewelry?

Available inclusions depend on the design, but may include breastmilk, dried flowers, fabric, ashes, and other approved materials. Each piece is individually created, so no two pieces will be exactly alike.

How much breastmilk do I need?

Approximately one ounce of breastmilk is needed for your order. Fresh or frozen breastmilk is accepted as long as it is not moldy. Detailed instructions for preparing and sending your inclusions will be emailed after your order is placed.

What if I no longer have breastmilk?

You can still have a meaningful keepsake made! Donor milk or formula is available as an alternative for designs that offer this option. Donor milk is available at no additional charge.

How do I send my inclusions?

After your order is placed, you'll receive instructions explaining how to prepare and send your materials. You are responsible for the postage costs when mailing inclusions. Local drop-off and pickup are available in Moulton, Alabama.

How long will my keepsake take?

Please allow approximately 3–6 weeks or longer for your keepsake to be completed. Turnaround time begins once your inclusions have been received. Some designs may require additional time for preservation, materials, or setting availability.

Will my finished piece look exactly like the photos?

Because every keepsake is made with unique materials, variations in color, texture, placement, and appearance are natural. Your finished piece may look slightly different from the listing photos, and that is part of what makes it one of a kind.

Will my unused inclusions be returned?

Yes! Any unused inclusions and unused preserved breastmilk will be returned with your completed order.

Can I change or cancel my keepsake order?

Because each keepsake is custom-made specifically for you, all keepsake orders are final once placed. Refunds, returns, cancellations, and order changes are not accepted. Please review your selections carefully before checking out.

Can I wear my keepsake jewelry every day?

Keepsake jewelry is delicate and is not intended for everyday wear. To help protect your piece, remove it before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping. Avoid excessive heat, moisture, chemicals, and rough handling. With proper care, you can help preserve your keepsake for years to come.

Handmade Beaded & Gemstone Jewelry

Are your bracelets handmade?

Yes! My beaded bracelets and other handmade designs are thoughtfully assembled with attention to detail. Each piece is created to be beautiful on its own or layered with your favorite jewelry.

Are your gemstones genuine?

Some designs feature genuine gemstones, while others use crystals, pearls, glass beads, or other decorative materials. Please refer to each product description for the specific materials used in that piece.

Can I customize a bracelet or necklace?

Many designs can be personalized with birthstones, bead colors, metal accents, or meaningful combinations. Customization options vary by product. If you have an idea in mind, please contact me before ordering to discuss what's possible.

Can I request a different bracelet size?

Bracelet sizing options vary by design. If you need a particular size or are unsure which size to choose, please reach out before ordering so I can help determine the best option.

Will my handmade jewelry look exactly like the pictures?

Slight variations in bead color, shape, pattern, and natural gemstone characteristics may occur. These small differences are normal in handmade jewelry and make every piece special.

Can I wear my beaded bracelets every day?

With proper care, many beaded bracelets can be enjoyed regularly. However, stretch bracelets and delicate beaded designs can be damaged by excessive pulling, moisture, or rough handling. They should be treated gently to help extend their life.

Metals & Materials

What is gold-filled jewelry?

Gold-filled jewelry has a genuine layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base metal. It contains significantly more gold than gold-plated jewelry and is a popular option for beautiful jewelry intended for regular wear. It is not solid gold, and its finish can still be affected by wear, chemicals, and improper care.

What is sterling silver?

Sterling silver is a precious metal consisting of 92.5% silver and other metals, typically copper. It is a classic jewelry material that can develop tarnish over time, but regular gentle cleaning and proper storage can help maintain its appearance.

Do you offer stainless steel jewelry?

Yes! Select designs, including certain keepsake settings and other jewelry styles, are available in stainless steel. Please check the individual product listing to confirm the material and finish.

Will my jewelry tarnish or change color?

All jewelry materials can change in appearance over time. Gold-filled jewelry can wear with prolonged use, sterling silver can tarnish, and stainless steel finishes may be affected by certain chemicals or conditions. Proper care and storage help protect your jewelry.

Can I wear my jewelry in the shower or swimming pool?

I recommend removing your handmade beaded jewelry and keepsake pieces before showering or swimming. Even when metal components are suitable for regular wear, water, chlorine, saltwater, soaps, and chemicals can affect the materials, elastic, adhesives, or finishes.

Jewelry Care

How should I care for my handmade jewelry?

A little extra care can go a long way! To help keep your jewelry looking its best:

  • Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping.
  • Avoid perfumes, lotions, hairspray, cleaning products, and harsh chemicals.
  • Store pieces separately in a clean, dry place.
  • Keep beaded jewelry away from excessive moisture.
  • Clean metal components gently with a soft, dry cloth when appropriate.
  • Avoid pulling, stretching, or twisting bracelets unnecessarily.
How do I care for stretch bracelets?

Stretch bracelets should be rolled gently over your hand rather than pulled or stretched as far as possible. Repeated overstretching can weaken the elastic and cause it to break. Avoid wearing stretch bracelets in water, and store them away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.

How do I prevent sterling silver from tarnishing?

Store sterling silver in a dry, preferably airtight container or jewelry pouch when not in use. Avoid exposure to moisture, perfumes, and household chemicals. A soft polishing cloth can help remove ordinary tarnish.

What if my bracelet breaks or my jewelry needs repair?

Please contact me with a description of the issue and, if possible, a photo of the piece. I'll be happy to discuss available repair options. Repair availability and costs depend on the design, materials, and condition of the jewelry.

Orders, Shipping & Policies

Do you accept custom orders?

Yes! I love creating meaningful jewelry and helping bring your ideas to life. Custom options depend on the design and available materials. Please contact me with your idea before placing an order.

How long will my order take?

Please allow approximately 3–6 weeks for all jewelry orders to be completed. Processing times may vary depending on the design, materials, and order volume. I'll do my best to complete your order with care and have it on its way as soon as possible.

For keepsake orders, the timeline begins once your inclusions have been received.

Do you ship orders?

Yes! Shipping options and costs are shown during checkout when available. For keepsake orders that require you to mail inclusions, you are responsible for the postage to send those materials to me.

What is your return, refund, or exchange policy?

All sales are final. Due to the handmade and custom nature of my jewelry, I do not accept refunds, returns, or exchanges.

However, your satisfaction matters to me! If an error occurs on my end with a custom order, such as an incorrect size, misspelled name, or wrong color, please contact me so we can make it right. The item may need to be returned so I can correct the issue. Please reach out before sending anything back so I can provide instructions.

This policy does not cover normal variations in handmade jewelry, including differences in natural gemstones, beads, colors, or the appearance of custom keepsake inclusions.

Can I make changes to my order after placing it?

Please review your selections carefully before checking out. Because each piece is made with care and many orders are customized, changes cannot be guaranteed once an order has been placed. Keepsake orders cannot be changed, canceled, or refunded after purchase.

For other handmade jewelry orders, please contact me as soon as possible if you notice an issue. Changes cannot be guaranteed once work has begun.

What if there is a mistake with my custom order?

I want you to love your jewelry! If I make a mistake with your custom order, such as a misspelled name, incorrect size, or wrong color, please email me at [email protected] with your order details and photos of the issue. I'll work with you to correct the error. Please contact me before returning the item so I can explain the next steps.
